You need to collect sunlight in order for you to buy a plant and place it in the battle field. There are certain levels that there are no sunlight which is at night. You will need a sunflower for you to get some sunlight and buy a plant. As you progresses through the game, there are unlockable game modes were you can play puzzles and other survival mini games.
